31 years, 20 times a day, now make it stop immediately. Sounds impossible when youn think of it that way, but I did it. I didn’t want to “quit” but I did want to just “be” a non-smoker. I knew the reasons to quit, but I did not have the confidence that I could just stop on my own. I mean, I liked smoking, I thought I would miss it. Hypnosis is for weak minds and weird people, it probably wouldn’t work on me. Wrong! I forced myself to go in with an open mind and wanting it to work. I think that’s the key. That said, I also carried a good bit of skepticism, even during my first session. I laughed in my head, but I listened to the instructions and figured, if nothing else, I’m getting an hour of rest I wouldn’t have otherwise. On the way home from that appointment, you know, driving when you normally light up a smoke, I thought about whether it worked or not. I didn’t have a smoke on the way home, even though there was half a pack sitting next to me. After dinner that night I stood up, cleared the dishes and found myself pacing around in the kitchen before I realized that’s normally when I go out for a smoke, but I didn’t have the urge to. I just didn’t know what to do with myself, so I laughed and went about my evening. The next morning, I made myself a coffee before work and went outside with the dog. Normally I would have a smoke, that was smoke time, I just didn’t. Everyday has been like this for the last two weeks. Realizing after or during a certain event (morning coffee, driving, a meal) that I would have had a smoke, but I’m a non-smoker now. I have had no anxiety about it, it isn’t a struggle to keep myself from having one. Having quit in the past I always felt like it was a constant fight to talk myself out of having one when I craved it. I just don’t even crave it. I’ve learned to embrace the fact that I am now aware, so there is no fight, it was a choice I made and that’s that. Do it! This was by far the best investment I’ve ever made in myself.
